The projection booth at the long-gone Southroads Cinema, a year before General Cinema "twinned" the theater. Some of our older members ran movies with the former projectionist's local, IATSE 513, before it was absorbed into Local 354. Prior to around 1998 and the ensuing digital conversion of movie theaters, pictures were projected via 35-mm film reels. The equipment you see here are Century projectors and Ashcraft Super Cinex carbon arc lamps. Two projectors were used as the reels only contained about 20 minutes of film and each projector was used, one-at-a-time, back and forth in sequential sequence, to exhibit the full motion picture and "trailers."
